God’s Spirit in God’s house – The Home Church 4

This spring we read the Gospel of John in our homes churches*. You can choose to listen to or read this week’s chapter. Title for this gathering is “God’s Spirit in God’s house”.

The first part of the chapter is about Jesus’ first miracle when he turns water into wine. The host of the wedding is amazed that the best wine comes last. This is a picture of spirituality deficiency in the Old Testament, and the new and improved sacrifice Jesus now represent so that we can be reconciled with God. The second part of the chapter is about when Jesus clears the temple. He gets upset over all the activities going on, when it should be a house of prayer for all peoples (Isaiah 56: 7). Perhaps some of our churches today need to think this over. Are they full of activities that obscures the main goal?

John – Chapter 2 – Focus this week: God’s Spirit in God’s house

Read the chapter here >>

Listen to the chapter here (you must click on stop when the chapter is over) >>

1. Start with eating a meal or having a snack together, and talk about the past week (share life). Make sure everyone who is present have a chance to speak.
2. Read the introduction and Bible verse above, loud and slowly for each other.
3. Turn off the sound on your mobiles. Put a stopwatch (we usually use the stove clock) on 10 minutes, close your eyes, and be totally silent until the timer rings. In the beginning thoughts will be bouncing, but then they will calm. Preferably do this exercise every day, as we meet so many things that distracts us from calming ourselves and listening to Gods Spirit. Read the Daily Bible Verse at the top right of TheWebChurch.in – before starting the silent part.
4. Pass around something small (could be a candle). The person holding this is the one who talks about thoughts of the Bible text that emerged during the silence. Of course it is also alright to share other thoughts that come to surface during the time you calmed your soul (Psalm 131: 2) >>
5. Talk about this weeks challenge (see below), pray for one another and finish by praying out loud Our Father >>

This weeks challenge:
Verse 5 (John 2) says that “But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Try to calm yourself a little extra this week, and listen to the Holy Spirit’s voice. What does Jesus wants YOU to do? Have you no one to share this with, please contact us at TheWebChurch.in@gmail.com

* The idea of a Home Church is that you do not have to go to a certain church building to learn more about God. You only have to find at least one other person to form a home study group (church) with. That’s how easy it is. Invite someone home for food or refreshments. It’s fine to start a home church with people who are not christians (family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc.). If so, work with the Bible verses based on “If this was true – what would it mean for me and my every day life?” We will publish new material every week.  Jesus says in Matthew 18, verse 20: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”.

Ps) We publish new posts every week. Please subscribe (the field to the right of this box), so you do not miss anything.
