Praying – The Home Church 19

Welcome to the weekly bible study in your Home Church. This section is all about Praying. Take this opportunity to lay hands on one another, to ask for the peace, blessing and guidance of God on your lives. Then pray also for others and expect God to answer – not always in your way but in His perfect way!

The idea of a home church is that you do not have to go to a certain building to learn more about God. You only have to find at least one other person to form a home study group (church) with. That’s how easy it is. It’s fine to start a home church with people who are not christians (family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc.). If so, work with the Bible verses based on “If this was true – what would it mean for me and my every day life?”

We will publish new material every week (according to the church year texts). Jesus says in Matthew 18, verse 20:

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”

A) What to do:

    1. Invite someone home for a meal or snack. Talk about the past week (share life).
    2. Read the bible words thoughtfully, preferably by reading out loud to each other.
    3. Talk about the questions at the end of this web post. Let everyone have their say.
    4. End by praying for each other and for help to apply the texts in everyday life.

B) This weeks Bible text is about “Praying” (The Message):

“Jesus told them a story showing that it was necessary for them to pray consistently and never quit. He said, “There was once a judge in some city who never gave God a thought and cared nothing for people. A widow in that city kept after him: ‘My rights are being violated. Protect me!’ “He never gave her the time of day. But after this went on and on he said to himself, ‘I care nothing what God thinks, even less what people think. But because this widow won’t quit badgering me, I’d better do something and see that she gets justice—otherwise I’m going to end up beaten black-and-blue by her pounding.’”Then the Master said, “Do you hear what that judge, corrupt as he is, is saying? So what makes you think God won’t step in and work justice for his chosen people, who continue to cry out for help? Won’t he stick up for them? I assure you, he will. He will not drag his feet. But how much of that kind of persistent faith will the Son of Man find on the earth when he returns?” Luke 18:1-8

C) Weekly discussion questions:

  • What thoughts and reflections do we get from this week’s scripture?
  • What can we practice this week – and how (from the scriptures we read)?
  • Let everyone present have a chance to comment on the scriptures. You can do like this:
Pass around a small thing – the person holding the thing (could be a candle) is the one who talks.
