Rich Towards God – The Home Church 39

Welcome to this week’s Scripture passage “Rich Towards God” to study in your Home Church *. Today’s scripture speaks of the heart’s relationship to God, and that we were put our money shows where we have our priorities. There is no secure property except the one you can get in heaven. God brings his gifts to us, and he wants us to use them in the service of others. If we live this way we gather our treasure in heaven.

Matthew 6:19-24 (Paraphrase) “Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or—worse!—stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it’s safe from moth and rust and burglars. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being. “Your eyes are windows into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a dank cellar. If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have! “You can’t worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you’ll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. You can’t worship God and Money both.”

1. Start with eating a meal or having a snack together, and talk about the past week (share life). Make sure everyone who is present have a chance to speak.
2. Read the introduction and Bible verse above, loud and slowly for each other.
3. Turn off the sound on your mobiles. Put a stopwatch (we usually use the stove clock) on 10 minutes, close your eyes, and be totally silent until the timer rings. In the beginning thoughts will be bouncing, but then they will calm. Preferably do this exercise every day, as we meet so many things that distracts us from calming ourselves and listening to Gods Spirit. Read the Daily Bible Verse at the top right of TheWebChurch.in – before starting the silent part.
4. Pass around something small (could be a candle). The person holding this is the one who talks about thoughts of the Bible text that emerged during the silence. Of course it is also alright to share other thoughts that come to surface during the time you calmed your soul (Psalm 131: 2) >>
5. Talk about this weeks challenge (see below), pray for one another and finish by praying out loud Our Father >>

This weeks challenge:
We are called to collect our riches in heaven. Is there anything on earth that takes too much energy or money from more important things – that maybe I should leave behind?

* The idea of a Home Church is that you do not have to go to a certain church building to learn more about God. You only have to find at least one other person to form a home study group (church) with. That’s how easy it is. Invite someone home for food or refreshments. It’s fine to start a home church with people who are not christians (family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc.). If so, work with the Bible verses based on “If this was true – what would it mean for me and my every day life?” We will publish new material every week (according to the church year texts). Jesus says in Matthew 18, verse 20: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”.

Ps) We publish new posts every week. Please subscribe (the field to the right of this box), so you do not miss anything.
