The Ascension of Jesus – The Home Church 20

Welcome to the weekly bible study in your Home Church. This section is all about The Ascension of Jesus. This is the Christian teaching found in the New Testament that the resurrected Jesus was taken up to Heaven in his resurrected body, in the presence of eleven of his apostles, occurring 40 days after the resurrection. In the biblical narrative, an angel tells the watching disciples that Jesus’ second coming will take place in the same manner as his ascension.

The idea of a home church is that you do not have to go to a certain building to learn more about God. You only have to find at least one other person to form a home study group (church) with. That’s how easy it is. It’s fine to start a home church with people who are not christians (family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc.). If so, work with the Bible verses based on “If this was true – what would it mean for me and my every day life?”

We will publish new material every week (according to the church year texts). Jesus says in Matthew 18, verse 20:

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”

A) What to do:

    1. Invite someone home for a meal or snack. Talk about the past week (share life).
    2. Read the bible words thoughtfully, preferably by reading out loud to each other.
    3. Talk about the questions at the end of this web post. Let everyone have their say.
    4. End by praying for each other and for help to apply the texts in everyday life.

B) This weeks Bible text is about “The Ascension of Jesus” (The Message):

“Then the Master Jesus, after briefing them, was taken up to heaven, and he sat down beside God in the place of honor. And the disciples went everywhere preaching, the Master working right with them, validating the Message with indisputable evidence.” Mark 16:19-20

C) Weekly discussion questions:

  • What thoughts and reflections do we get from this week’s scripture?
  • What can we practice this week – and how (from the scriptures we read)?
  • Let everyone present have a chance to comment on the scriptures. You can do like this:
Pass around a small thing – the person holding the thing (could be a candle) is the one who talks.

Please feel free to contact us by email at – – or by posting a comment.
