Worship – The Home Church 41

Welcome to this week’s Scripture passage “Worship” to study in your Home Church *. Today’s scripture is about ten lepers who Jesus shows mercy upon and cures. He tells them to go and show themselves to the priests – before they were healed. A step that called for faith. But then the strange thing happens, that out of the ten who are cured, only one returns to give Jesus thanks and worship him. The only man who returns to thank Jesus is a pagan.

Luke 17:11-19 (Paraphrase) “It happened that as he made his way toward Jerusalem, he crossed over the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten men, all lepers, met him. They kept their distance but raised their voices, calling out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” Taking a good look at them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” They went, and while still on their way, became clean. One of them, when he realized that he was healed, turned around and came back, shouting his gratitude, glorifying God. He kneeled at Jesus’ feet, so grateful. He couldn’t thank him enough—and he was a Samaritan. Jesus said, “Were not ten healed? Where are the nine? Can none be found to come back and give glory to God except this outsider?” Then he said to him, “Get up. On your way. Your faith has healed and saved you.””

1. Start with eating a meal or having a snack together, and talk about the past week (share life). Make sure everyone who is present have a chance to speak.
2. Read the introduction and Bible verse above, loud and slowly for each other.
3. Turn off the sound on your mobiles. Put a stopwatch (we usually use the stove clock) on 10 minutes, close your eyes, and be totally silent until the timer rings. In the beginning thoughts will be bouncing, but then they will calm. Preferably do this exercise every day, as we meet so many things that distracts us from calming ourselves and listening to Gods Spirit. Read the Daily Bible Verse at the top right of TheWebChurch.in – before starting the silent part.
4. Pass around something small (could be a candle). The person holding this is the one who talks about thoughts of the Bible text that emerged during the silence. Of course it is also alright to share other thoughts that come to surface during the time you calmed your soul (Psalm 131: 2) >>
5. Talk about this weeks challenge (see below), pray for one another and finish by praying out loud Our Father >>

This weeks challenge:
The Bible says (Thessalonians) that we should thank God in all of life’s circumstances. Is there something God has done in my life recently, I now should remember to thank and worship him for?

* The idea of a Home Church is that you do not have to go to a certain church building to learn more about God. You only have to find at least one other person to form a home study group (church) with. That’s how easy it is. Invite someone home for food or refreshments. It’s fine to start a home church with people who are not christians (family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc.). If so, work with the Bible verses based on “If this was true – what would it mean for me and my every day life?” We will publish new material every week (according to the church year texts). Jesus says in Matthew 18, verse 20: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”.

Ps) We publish new posts every week. Please subscribe (the field to the right of this box), so you do not miss anything.
